CONCRETE CANVAS
Intelligent Fabrication & Concrete Canvas is a workshop held from April 8 to 12, 2019 and designed to manufacture and exhibit various models on a human scale using the novel material of concrete canvas.
These will be carried out according to preliminary parametric explorations built via Karamba 3D, an extension of the Grasshopper software and the visualization software being Rhinoceros. During one week of the workshop, it is then a question of handling the concrete material in strips, to exhaust its capacities ; until obtaining three pavilions of about 30 m2 and nine pieces of urban furniture up to 9 m2 each.
The advantage of the concrete canvas material is its ability to become flexible through its combination of water and the 3D fibre matrix. Moreover, it needs a shape with proper curvature and reinforcement to carry it’s own weight.
In parallel, the week is marked by conferences, led by various speakers and lecturers. In this way, subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, materials and parametric geometry are covered.
